In 1971, Franz-Josef Wernze started out managing a group of professionals – two of them from the Tax Inspectorate of the Federal Republic of Germany. He created a tax consultancy office in Essen, Germany, called ETL. In the space of just a few years, the firm achieved great success working in the German oil distribution sector and providing services to small- and medium-size industrial and service companies in the domestic market.
Right from the start, this team of professionals had a great view of the future, knowing that its differential value lay in offering tax consultancy services that would operate in close collaboration with clients. ETL has always aimed to be a part of its client’s teams and to become involved in the business to foster both development and growth. With this approach, the firm and its associates have carved an important niche in German market, rejecting the usual attitude taken by tax and legal consultancy services. This is an approach that it applies to the entire market (not restricted large listed companies) with ETL professionals committed to their clients’ interests (everyone from juniors to partners becomes closely involved).
After 50 years providing rigorous, committed, excellent advisory services, the ETL group began its international expansion. In 2011, with a high profile in Germany, it became the top ranked consultant for small and medium companies by turnover and professionals and appeared among the top five professional services firms. ETL GLOBAL, the new name given to the company when it started its international expansion, has always ensured that new partners joining the firm share its philosophy and objectives, while maintaining their own personalities and characteristics, all qualities that enrich the company.
In 2014, ETL GLOBAL started work in Spain by integrating offices in Madrid and Barcelona. This allowed the company to achieve 16th position in the professional services ranking in 2015 (Expansión 04/04/2016), a position which it expects to build on in the coming years. We will continue to expand into other cities in Spain, adding to our range of services to cover our clients’ needs, committed to supporting small- and medium-size Spanish companies.
